"A brutal September," says Giles White, Hampshire's director of cricket, when asked about a month which ultimately shaped Hampshire's season.

Defeats in two cup finals and a final day relegation escape that no-one saw coming after Durham's scarcely believable collapse handed Hampshire salvation.

Now White has to begin planning for 2026 and ensuring that the county don't find themselves in the same position in 12 months time.

There's a degree of disquiet among Hampshire supporters after a red ball season which has seen a top order struggle for runs and the bowling unit being overly reliant on the Rothesay County Championship MVP, Kyle Abbott.
