Hampshire has been a byword for continuity for much of the past decade: a stable coaching setup, a core group of players, and an ownership structure that has been in place for nearly 25 years.
The past six months, therefore, have represented something akin to a whirlwind whipping through the John Arlott atrium in the Rod Bransgrove Pavilion, before working its way out to the Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie and Shane Warne stands and finishing in Beefy’s in the on-site Hilton Hotel - presumably for a decent glass of red and a steak.
On that theme, Hampshire presented outgoing coach Adi Birrell with a prize bull when he left the club in September.
It was an apt gift for a coach who had been at Hampshire since 2019 and was now intent on spending more time at his family farm back home in South Africa.
