Results on Mayes' Mind as his Cricket Education Continues at Pace

Ben Mayes readily admits that he didn't expect to start for Hampshire in red ball cricket but after scoring a maiden first class 50 against Glamorgan in an otherwise dismal defeat for Russell Domingo's side, but with his A Levels approaching, he tells the Hawk that he's ready for whatever is coming his way - on and off the pitch.

Results haven't gone the way that most Hampshire supporters would have liked so far this season.

But if there's one ray of light amid the gloom circling the Division One basement dwellers, it's the continual steps forward taken by a teenager who might have other results on his mind in the coming week.

The 18-year-old will take his A Levels over the coming weeks, but scored his first half-century against Glamorgan in last week's match at the Utilita Bowl.

And although he finished squarely on the losing side, that innings - a backs-to-the-wall knock of 59 in 104 balls demonstrated that he doesn't only have the talent.
