Few institutions can boast of having hosted a guest list of speakers that includes John Arlott, Barry Richards, David Gower, Malcolm Marshall, Graham Gooch, Mark Nicholas, Jeff Thomson and Henry Olonga.

And trust me, that's a seriously abridged rollcall.

The Hampshire Cricket Society will celebrate its 50th anniversary early in 2026, having begun life as an informal discussion back in the summer of 1975.

The West Indies had just been crowned the winners of the inaugural World Cup at Lord's, Tony Greig was England skipper, Harold Wilson was Prime Minister and a pint at the pubs surrounding Hampshire's Northlands Road ground would set you back roughly 28p.
