Hampshire's men were left licking their wounds after a seven wicket defeat against Somerset in the T20 Blast.
But the women exited the West Country licking their lips at the prospect of building on a thrilling tie in the Taunton sunshine.
Paul Prichard's side were chasing 159 and looked odds-on to win it after skipper Georgia Adam and Ella McCaughan added 87 for the first wicket.
They were pegged back by Niamh Holland, who took 4 for 21 off her four overs, and failed to regain the momentum to get them over the line in a match that had everything.
