We may be entering September but cricket's crazy calendar means there's no let-up in international commitments as the summer draws to a close.

On Monday, it became clear that Sonny Baker would not be released to play in Hampshire's crunch clash with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, which begins on Tuesday.

Lions' call-ups then cast a fresh shadow over the make-up of Hampshire's squad.

The Hawk, however, understands that discussions between the ECB and Hampshire's director of cricket, Giles White, mean that both Ben Mayes and Eddie Jack are free to play against the reigning champions, despite being whistled up for Lions duty against Sri Lanka.
