The County Championship has experienced minimal change since its formation in 1890.

But The Hawk understands that next week could be one of the most significant in the competition's history - with a new schedule and format on the cusp of being approved by the required number of counties.

A vote of county chairs is scheduled to take place next week and if proposals are passed, Hampshire could find themselves part of a very new look County Championship in 2026 and beyond.

Discussions over a change to the existing Division One and Division Two structure have been ongoing throughout 2025.
