Hampshire respond to injury substitutes proposal

For years, an injury to a key player during the course of a match was an accepted peril - and one greeted with a shrug of the shoulders.
Now the ICC has introduced a proposal that will see substitutes allowed for a player who has suffered a "serious injury" during the course of the game.
The trial period will begin in first class cricket in October and, if successful, could be rolled out across the County Championship.
Giles White, Hampshire's director of cricket, though, believes the plans are impractical and could result in more players spending their summers kicking their heels and carrying drinks rather than playing cricket.
