There was an end of season feel to the weather at the Utilita Bowl on the opening day of Hampshire's crunch clash with Surrey.

But Adi Birrell's men must wish that they could start this campaign all over again after comprehensively outplaying Surrey at the Utilita Bowl.

On a day heavy in emotion - with a minutes silence for legendary umpire, Dickie Bird, and on-pitch presentations for both Birrell and the departing Keith Barker - it was Hampshire who walked off with a spring in their step.

Surrey must fear that their faint chances of lifting a fourth title in succession are over.
