Adi Birrell has welcomed a dramatic draw at New Road as his Hampshire side had the best of a thrilling final day at Worcestershire.

The hosts were eight wickets down when stumps were finally drawn but, at times in their fourth innings, the Pears looked capable of pulling off an incredible chase, having been set 357 for victory, after Hampshire declared on 313 for seven midway through the afternoon.

In reply, Jake Libby scored a memorable 106, while Kashif Ali and captain, Brett D'Oliveira also made valuable contributions as Worcestershire scorched their way to 303 for 8 off just 51 overs.

Speaking exclusively to The Hawk, Birrell was quick to praise Worcestershire, but believes Hampshire have just taken a giant step towards Division One survival.
