Kyle Abbott will be heading out to Australia next week as he ramps up his preparations for his tenth successive season with Hampshire, and as the debate rages over England's warm-up for the Ashes, he tells the Hawk that for a bowler, there's only one way to improve and stay fit. As England's bowlers struggled in the opening three Tests of this winter's Ashes, the debate over their preparations for world cricket’s toughest tour raged.

A single two-day warm-up, after much of the England attack had been wrapped in cotton wool last summer, proved woefully insufficient as Ben Stokes’ side wilted under the hot Australian sun.

The Aussie batters, meanwhile, made hay. For Kyle Abbott, Hampshire’s talisman and perhaps the most consistent bowler in English first-class cricket over the past decade, there is only one way to prepare.
